Recent research

Since the 1990s, countries throughout Europe have been conducting studies on men in early childhood education and care and implementing measures to increase the percentage of men working in ECEC institutions. Research on this topic has increased substantially in recent years, both in Germany and across Europe.

Our study

The small number of male educators currently working in ECEC is valued by educators, ECEC centre administrators, ECEC provider programme directors and parents, for enriching the educational work of ECEC centres. ECEC centres welcome men entering the field. more

European research network

The European research network KOME, Knowledge on Men in Early Childhood Education, was established in 2008.The network has held research colloquia and symposia on men and gender in ECEC centres at a number of international conferences. more
